Artist Bio
ARTIST STATEMENT
I've been drawing and painting since I was a small child. Although I like to explore new techniques, my favorite is oil painting because of its brilliant luminosity in portraying light and color in paintings. My work attempts to reflect the natural beauty of California, as well as the people who live there.
I'm a member of the Oil Painters of America, American Impressionist Society, Placerville Arts Association, and the El Dorado Art Council. I have also been affiliated with the Watercolor Artists of Sonoma County.
BIOGRAPHY
California artist DJ Lanzendorfer has over 30 years of experience in her field. Her paintings have sold all over the world through galleries and on-line sales. DJ is represented by galleries throughout California and participates in art competitions and exhibits where she has won many awards.
COMMERCIAL ART PAST
In her 20's Lanzendorfer studied art at Lewis and Clark College in Oregon before returning to California. There she founded Rainbow Glass Works, where she make stained-glass windows and oval portable window art pieces in the style of L.C. Tiffany. That business soon grew into the field of commercial art, where DJ created a successful international design business the included creative design, advertising in national magazines, graphic art, layout, and printing.
BACK TO HER FIRST LOVE
In the 90's DJ returned full-time to her first love: painting. She pursued an independent program of further study, taking classes with master artists. Her studies included portraits, figures, and landscapes.
NOW
Today, DJ's work explores themes as small as a single piece of fruit and as large as the indigenous people of Mexico and the South West. She favors dramatic and intimate compositions that feature brilliant color harmonies and painterly brushwork. Her work employs traditional painting techniques, but with a contemporary twist.
